Week 1 with the youngest grand

Image
Last week my daughter's house was gifted a case of strep. It ran the gauntlet of the family members except the youngest. This week I started caring for the youngest again, and she is a busy little thing! Now strep is headed through our house. My youngest is now suffering the effects of the flaming throat, fever, and the irritating dry cough. We went with the other family to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate the youngest turning 3.  Birthday kiddo B-Day kiddo's helper Who needs help  Today her cold has turned to pink eye, this does not excite me. Her throat symptoms have cleared a bit and the congestion is better for sure, but now the eye is involved. Hopefully a little intense monitoring and keeping it free of drainage will be all that is needed as we head into the weekend. Because the last place I want to go is the ER. 336 shopping days until Christmas 2023

The good news is that there are about 701 shopping days until Christmas of 2024! So, if you really need to know that information here it is! Now that is taken care of, I need to organize my thoughts for the week. Today is trash day and I am fairly sure that DH did not take the trash to the dumpster that he had promised to do yesterday. I may need to run out and put the last of the bags in before they show up to empty the dumpster. The solar team arrived for the county inspection that is scheduled for 0900. They played Army, actually, they are still playing Army. The county guy still hasn't arrived, and it is 0956. With the current temperature being 24degrees I don't think I would wait all that long. They ended up texting and saying they would be back as the county guy was at another job. It is now after 1pm and they are back. The laundry room was a hot mess when they arrived the first time, but I straightened it up while they were gone. I did not know they needed access to tha

Almost February!

I was encouraged to do a countdown to Christmas, or I think it was put as "shopping days until Christmas". I had not included that up to this point as just counting down the weeks until the next year got lost in the posts last year. However, I have had time to rethink this. I think it is a good plan! It may potentially keep me on track to getting those handmade gifts actually made and ready.  In reality this may not work at all for my procrastinating habit, but it might. For now, though I must go sweep and mop the kitchen floor. I am back! I also snuck in a trip to town, my intent was just to go to SSFB and pick up my meds, but I had to take the kiddos, so we opted to go for a treat too. Dairy Queen no longer has cotton candy blizzards, so we left and went to the frozen yogurt place, I do not know the name of the place, but I have only been there once before. Then we went to a mini-Walmart and got dog treats and the headed back to the base to get my prescriptions. Unfortunat

What IS for breakfast?

Image
Every morning I wake up and hear the same question. What's for breakfast or some form of that question. I wrote out the meal plan for this week and although I finished the lunch and dinner portions, I somehow overlooked the breakfast for today. It is Thursday and my mind went blank. Normally, there would be cold cereal available, not today though as they finished that off earlier in the week. The youngest does not eat blueberry muffins, so that offer was out of the question. I looked at the 2 quarts of buttermilk in the fridge, and biscuits quickly came to mind. I thought while I was baking some to eat, I would also bake some to freeze so that next week I could play Pillsbury's dough girl.  When I finished making some for the freezer it was about an hour before lunch would be due, so I thought I would experiment with the biscuit dough. I added some garlic powder and a generous helping of cheddar cheese and baked those to go with the lunch spaghetti. Plus, I really wanted to us

assemble and disassemble, why?

When we first moved back to the property, we purchased a full-size bunk bed for the girls off of Facebook Marketplace. That was almost three years ago. Last year we purchased a twin over full bunk for the basement "guest" room. No there isn't a guest room yet, but maybe someday. Move forward a year and now the bed is in the oldest child's room without the bottom bunk as a modified loft bed. The littlest decided she also, would like a loft bed, so I ordered one and have been attempting to clear her room in order to assemble it.  The box is finally in her room, and I think the full over full must come down for the other to go up. Originally, we had planned to put two loft beds in this room. This room is larger than the house in town's bedrooms, but less than half the size of the rooms in the house that burned down. Loft beds seemed like an answer. However, the full-size bunk that I ultimately purchased stole my thought process and indeed works, except that I am the

New to-do list

It is funny after taking a break to relax (and panic) I mean, enjoy a water park with the kids, I find that my to do list needs re-evaluating. There are quite a few things that need to be added and a few need to be removed. Our school schedule alone could use a makeover. Also, it is time to get all those tax documents in order and get that mess taken care of. red morning sky  As January drags on in the same fashion as other post-holiday months, I am poised to take on clutter. I just hope to live through the onslaught of what could happen! Actually, the only thing that could happen is the feeling of space in an otherwise compartmentalized house. An open floor plan is so much more user friendly, in my opinion. These boxed off square rooms make it super simple to have clutter accumulate. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I cannot seem to get everything done in one day, what I mean by that is I cannot get all the laundry put away and not have someone or something interrupt the process.
