First day of Spring has sprung!

Image
To celebrate spring and all that goes with it, we planned a trip to the aquarium in Denver. We started later than planned as I had to motivate more than just myself. DH was on the slow functioning/confused side that morning. The kids and I took the party van we enjoyed the softness of the overstuffed seats and nostalgic feel of a '90's van. It may be a tank, but it rides like a Cadillac! Pure comfort all the way. The kids had a great time. It was the first time they really led themselves through and seemed to enjoy the majority of the exhibits. They have changed the name  But not the attractions Stingray petting was the favorite  Two fingers only was repeated often The brown jellyfish were cool Coming down from the high view of the tigers Not everything was exciting The bubble tanks were! Two kids could fit Stingray smiling Water tunnel Stingrays were abundant!  Fossils were too Otters stole the show They could have watched these all day! The week has progressed and not much of

Mish mash and other musings...

After a wildly weird weekend and missing church on Sunday, I have started the weekly bill paying list. We had discussed taking out a loan to pay off a few things and then build a garage, and although that is still on the table, we plan to wait a bit longer. We may be able to self-finance and still get it done in this lifetime.  lucky lane deer  Looking at the list of things that are paid each month, we made a decision to wipe the slate clean. During the calling of each active credit card, we overlooked one that somehow had a balance that we did not know about. After researching the purchase made in January, we decided it might be fraud. That being taken care of marked the end of the week. The adventures that happened at the beginning of the week were pretty chaotic as well. Sunday was a bust with missing church and having the fun of the smoke alarms all night. We were going to deliver homemade get-well cards to the favorite mom in my daughter's neighborhood. I also had a short lis

Why am I tall?

Image
Not me. This is a question the 12-year-old asked today. I told her God wanted her to be that tall. Also, I need her to be that tall. I cannot reach the top shelves in the cupboards, so I need her to be able to reach them. Yes, it is probably a mild form of child abuse, I think I could convince a judge of the value. too tall to climb through the tunnel easily!   our yearly pose at focus on the family The younger kiddo is having a rough time today with memories of her toys that were lost in the house fire. She has spent the afternoon in the attic looking through boxes and looking through an old phone at photos. It has taken the better part of this evening to calm her sniffles. I am not sure if the new medication contributed or just finding pictures from our old home burning and pictures of toys that were lost to previously unseen flames.   That particular day (Friday) turned into an all-nighter. It was 0430 Saturday morning before the youngest even tried to lay down and sleep. She was n

Working on change...

Yesterday I went for my follow up x-ray for the dislocated shoulder. Radiology technicians are secretly contortionists I am sure of it.  This will perhaps serve them well when they exit the armed services. Today I go for the real follow-up appointment, more on that later.  It is lonely waiting It is later and all is well, if you don't count the fact that three providers later and not one gave the same instructions as the other. Life goes on and so do the dishes and laundry! All of my seeds have sprouted and are officially seedlings. As we contemplate what is next this year, I am instructed or begged however you want to view things, to think about what I want in another car. I do not feel we have gotten all the use out of the one we have. It seems to me that it has to be something simple that is going wrong with this thing as opposed to something complicated, or even expensive for that matter. Regardless, there are more seeds to plant today as soon as I get the dishes finished. Aft

Time for change...

Image
I know I have said this before. Really though it is time for a change. The first change I would like to make is to get a rolling chair for this desk. I realize that I have bowed to gravity's power, and I may be provoking gravity to challenge me again with a rolling chair. Hear me out. After reviewing the reports of my injury, I have come to realize that getting up and trying to dodge the four-legged-furry things around my feet I am at greater risk of provoking gravity than if I were to try and roll away from the crowded area before attempting to stand. After that change is achieved, I would like to address the matter of sleep. This eludes me when it is the appropriate time for such activity. Say 0105 on a regular basis seems to be a wakeup call for me. Then I struggle to return to sleep until about 0430 when I should be waking for the day's activities. If I attempt to go to sleep after this time, I risk sleeping half the day away. Not that the dogs or the kids would allow this

Return of the travelers

Image
Saturday, I began to wonder what had happened to the travelers. I went all day without a phone call or a text. That was weird as I thought they would call when they dropped the grandson at his friend's home in Oklahoma. I sent a text and then I thought, that might take a while to arrive, so I called. Turned out they were less than two hours from arrival. They arrived and the pot pie was done just in time. They spent some time getting settled in and we met up again on Sunday morning.  We did online church on Sunday, as my shoulder wasn't really up to the task. That and DH didn't go to bed until 4 am. As I sit here and type this the youngest kiddo is full of energy and chattering away! I think of all we have been through this year already and I am astounded by the list. The shoulder thing is just one more potato in the stew of life. Monday brought babysitting again. Little Maddie arrived at 0545 as planned. It was a good day, she warmed up to her cousin that is going to be b
