September is almost gone...

Fall is right around the corner, and we continue to get things ready for the winter. My busy mind is trying hard to wrap around all that needs to be done before the cold sets in. I do not want to move in the wintertime, but I will keep searching for that perfect house. As I have said before, maybe I am in it. I do not think that I am, but I might be. The sleeping arrangement for the dogs is working on some levels. I cannot keep my bedroom door open at night or I will be buried in a multicolored fur blanket in seconds. Once SIL returns home the dogs will need other arrangements. The hope was to be moved to a property with lots of acreage for the animals, and the kids and the SIL and DH. The reality is we live here and will for the rest of this year and the first three months of next year.  I suggested a one level home be built on this land; I was met with more resistance than I have seen in a long time. A reapproach will happen next week. I was promised electric in the attic by end of

Friendships

Why do I seem to have trouble connecting the dots? My mind is getting restless again. I have help to watch the kiddos so that I can go to an event, but now I am hesitant to go. While gone I could go see some property that I am interested in, yet I still have not purchased the tickets. The longer I wait the higher the price. I guess deep down I do not want to go. Tonight, we had a new to us dish for dinner. Apricot chicken it seemed like it would be easy enough to make. I read the recipe, found I did not have Catalina dressing, not to worry I have cookbooks. So, after reading several recipes for the dressing, it became apparent that I am lacking in pantry supplies. I do not have any red wine vinegar. I do have apple cider vinegar and I do have a bottle of red wine that I bought for my cousin, she does not like red wine, so she gave it back to me. Now the trouble would be a corkscrew. It wasn't red wine vinegar, but we made do. And with the added benefit that no one had ever had the

The week as it goes...

Monday- Today I have to get phone calls made and our to-do for the weekend decided. The shed did not get roofed or painted so that will be an obvious project, but I need to have another project and a backup project ready, so we stay on track. The dog pen has a bit of "enhancing" that needs to be worked on. I am hoping to have that done before the weekend happens. The trash company was very accommodating, and they picked up today and will pick up every week until I tell them to stop. I weeded the dog pen, cleaned up messes made by the puppy, cuddled the big dogs and soothed their hurt feelings. Got rained on several different times and bought a donut that I did not need. I am pretty sure it needed me though. It jumped out of the bag and crossed my lips before I could say "Don't let me eat you". Tuesday- It is already today and that is a day later than the previous paragraph and I have yet to get things done today. I did get some weeds pulled in the dog area and a

Moving on...

No not moving just moving on. It is Sunday and the goals for this weekend were met. The new plan is to pick one big project to complete in a week and if it gets done then we sprinkle in a little yard clean-up. On Saturday there was a delay with too many Chiefs and not enough Indians. The work has been listed and the list gets added to as we find things that were missed. We tend to just "live" with something half done and then move on to another project that blows in with the wind.  The shed the guys worked on yesterday had been built originally 10+ years ago, but never painted or completed. So, when we heard the rain starts today the repair moved to the top of the list. Today the roofing material will be added and hopefully it will get wrap with Tyvek or something similar, or at the very least painted. Shed with a roof and walls!  Our dumpster is completely full, and we are piling bags of trash and debris beside it now as pick up is 8 days away. I will call this week and see

Plan B

Our helper brought over a fifth wheel this afternoon. It is livable for him. It needs a little, well really a lot of TLC but not near as much as the one I found to have him look at. He was told all the appliances work and it has not been torn apart to "remodel" it is just older, a 1993 model. This the back end You can see a broken window It is not too bad for $500 the left back jack is bent He does not have a hitch on his truck to tow it, so his nephew brought it over for him.  Hopefully, it will work out and he will help DH get some things done. The kids cleared an area for it, and he seems excited to have some things to keep him busy during the day. There is plenty around here to keep everyone busy! The master plans for the move are tossed out the window for now. Yet the helper is sure he can get the place ready in four months. I do not believe this but, what if he does? I guess we deal with it when it happens. While I wait, I am going to setup things in the kitchen as if I

What IS next?

There are many yard things to take care of. The to-do list is miles long. The challenge is to figure where to start. The new plan is to stay here and fight to have a guest house put on the property. Oh, my goodness short term memory is a problem, that is what started the whole "let's move" process. I have not completed anything today of major importance and now the well pump is not working. I have to climb down into the well house and figure out what is wrong. yes, the charred remains  it seems a bit iffy stepping on this was scary but this is where I must go Water is back on. Not sure what the problem was, because I never made it down the ladder. Force of habit took me to the sink to wash my hands and the water worked. Weird, but true. In the meantime, DH returned with the children in tow, and I fixed dinner. Slight glitch when the rice cooker would not turn on, so I went to the neighbor's, AKA my daughter and son-in-law's RV and borrowed their rice cooker. Toni

How we spent the first weekend in September

Image
The weekend started with a half day of school for the kids. While they were off to higher learning, I ran off to look at a class C rundown camper that someone had on Facebook. Do I need this? No. I am just always thinking of creative outlets that I have no business thinking about. To say it was in rough shape is an understatement. Really all that is left is the shell and the wheels. My daughter's uncle-in-law may be able to make a little home for himself out of it. He really wants out of the motel he is living in, and he and DH made an agreement to exchange parking space for help on all the work around here. I am staying out of that one. Nonetheless my son-in-law and his uncle are off to see the project vehicle. If he thinks he can make it livable before winter, he might take it and then DH will have man help. Saturday brought the first chance at a sleepover with a classmate after a 3 hour stretch of playing at her house. I have already blogged about my adventures while the child

Hello September!

So here we are! It is the first day of September and it is hot! We are scheduled to go look at property next weekend and DH is having second thoughts. Now the decision will be up to me. This is probably the best thing that could happen at this point. If only I were up to the task. The moon from my front porch last night It was pretty I sat there and pondered if I would miss the openness of the prairie moving into a wooded property. Would an inground pool make a smoother transition? Would a hot tub do it for me? I don't know. For now, we will stay put and try to get stuff done around here. This weekend should have been a no brainer for getting stuff done, however it wasn't. The dumpster is almost full there is much more in the yard and the house to take care of. I set out yesterday while the youngest was playing with a friend, to find a wagon and a new rake. Yes, I do realize we have a hardware store where these can be purchased. It was a mission, so the store was a last resort
