Disappointment on my dreams...wait a minute! Who gets enough sleep to dream?

In a past post I had declared a no spend month. That failed and almost miserably! So this month I am trying a no spend day. I figured one day at a time might be more successful. Today was not the day to start however, I had to buy a soda at work to save my sanity lol crazy right? It was just one of those days where I could not get ahead of the paperwork. In fact I clocked out long before I left. Finally I just shoved it all in a drawer labeled to be filed and went on my way. DH had called earlier in the day to say he needed money in his account and I needed to hit the bank before they closed.
 Also I have developed a fun habit of making crock pot yogurt and I needed a container of plain yogurt to use as a starter, plus on Monday I had scored some organic milk for one dollar a half gallon!!! I have been so ready to make a fresh batch of yogurt I could almost taste it!  I made a half gallon last Friday and I took it to work and they ate it up! So this girl needs to make some ASAP! There is just something about being able to make something, anything yourself that feels satisfying. For me it is almost liberating to know that I am not at the mercy of Wal-Mart to get yogurt for my family.  And to get organic milk and organic starter for less than half the cost of a regular quart container of stores brand, run of the mill, packed with additives yogurt is even better! Maybe my mom was right I probably would have been a hippie if only I had been born a bit sooner in life!

You can make it on the stove but I am not only lazy but easily distracted as well so the crock pot is a yogurt saver. Without it I would waste a lot of milk or serve some kind of burnt milk casserole... I am currently waiting for my heated milk to cool a bit to about

110 degrees before I mix in the starter and put the crock in a blanket in the oven.  Yes the oven, it will keep it draft free and allow it to ferment into the luscious treat that will be served tomorrow. This batch will be Greek style as I have come to like that the best lately.
Well the crock is in the oven and I am ready to crash and wait for the magic of time to work...

The contents of this post are from early February. I was going to delete but thought more about it and decided to share. Sorry the pic's are sideways. As I sit at the table and look across to the counter in the middle of the room some call an Island, i bask in the silence that is now. Soon the island will be cluttered with items needed to make lunches and chaos will fill the silence as the house gets moving and kids get ready for school. There's only a few minutes until everyone else starts getting up. Today is hippotherapy for the youngest. The wind is howling right now so they may cancel it if it's too cold for the old horses they don't go out. It's too cold for this old horse! For 3 days we've been able to go outside without coats or sweaters or jackets. Yesterday the storm clouds brewed like they were going to dump an ocean in the yard I ran outside and grabbed seven batts of insulation and took them to the basement to save them from the rain. By

To be or not to be... that is NOT the question!

 It is the day before Thanksgiving and our plans have drastically changed. We will not be going to my daughter's home, and we will not be having turkey with her. I did manage to find a turkey and it looked smallish to me. Turns out it was only a pound smaller than the smallest one at the commissary. We will go for the bone density test this morning, and I will drop the dog off for groomer at my daughter's this morning on the way to the density test.  It might be a ham thanksgiving this year if anything at all. I am not complaining. I don't want to clean or cook as no one in this house even eats all the stuff. That was all yesterday and like everything in my life it changes hourly. We made it to all of our appointments and with the kids in tow! We did not get to any stores, because I do not do stores with kids if I do not have to. As Summer comes to an end...

  It is the end of the first week of August and the weather is changing. The nights are quite cool and the days are enough to singe your skin. The urgent things on my to do list are not all the way completed but getting there. Still 3 trees to go and I am making those my mandatory for this weekend. The smoke in the air from distant fires makes it difficult to breathe at times. I can only imagine how difficult it is for those closer to the actual fires. There has been some work on the henhouse and we have added an entry fence that helps tremendously!  DH widened the fence line for the turkeys too. He also made a north entry opening so when we separate the genders the girls can get out of the house without joining the males. When we slapped the bottom boards on last spring we knew we were creating work for later. The boards were overlapping the other boards and siding the building would not be right without trimming them. DH worked hard and got the turkey side trimmed and also was able t
