The countdown ends...

There are only a few days left in this year. I am sure I will have lots of thoughts of things that need to change. I need to keep the changes small. No one in this house seems to adjust very well to change. This past week I have spent organizing and rearranging the bedrooms and churning cream into butter. DH has tried to amputate his fingers with a circular saw and needs more practice to get a complete process. Though it won't be easy as his saw is not where he left it. The oldest kiddo's dresser her desk and shelf  Her bunk and the love seat under it Today I am starting on the third and final bedroom. I have ordered a new bed for the youngest. I hope it works out. She was not happy that the oldest got to have the love seat in her room. I was glad to get it out of the living room. This house is too small for big furniture. The bunkbed without the lower bunk helps the tiny room it is in seem bigger. The other bedroom is larger, but the child has an enormous amount of stuff tha...

One out of five? Not ideal but work goes on

Image
When I finally had time to gather all the information on everyone's appointments it was obvious that I should never sign up for shifts without a planner in hand. I signed up for 5 shifts without the advice of a planner or calendar in hand. Much to my disappointment every shift except one had a conflict. I now have the guilty pleasure of telling the one who "pushed me" to pick up shifts, that we must change a few. I say this because the person who schedules things played on my sympathies for their nursing shortage. It turns out now that they are going to add Q maps to the schedule. They say they will always have a nurse on duty, but I wonder about that. Every place I have worked has eliminated nurses 24/7 and gone with the other option and a nurse available if needed. Time will tell. Onward, I did get a couple of other tasks put on the to do list. Goal setting and meal planning are my weak areas, and they did not make the list of tasks.  Last night's egg haul  I have ...

Who is coming to visit?!

Image
It might really happen! This is the last full week before my mom is supposed to come and visit. Many times, over the years she has said she wants to come visit. I think this might be the year she actually shows up. Her Aunt is 102 and she has promised to come visit again for about 12 years. Of course, before that she had planned to come out to the old house. That never happened, thankfully. It was much too big to get organized in just a week! That house was much bigger than the current house. As everything it was a work in progress. This little house is also "in progress". The list to complete by Sunday grows by the hour. DH is working on the porch railing! Yay!! He started to place the railing last summer and got about halfway. So today, he only has half the walkway and the whole porch to be done. The kids plan on taking their fifth wheel and leaving for Oklahoma on Thursday. This will mean that they will not be here when their grandparents arrive. Today they are working on...

the weekend is too short!

As the nights cool down and the crickets get louder it is obvious that summer is coming to an end. The garden was not as successful as it could have been but lessons were learned. Sometimes, no most of the time I feel as though I am just going through the motions of life. I am not sad, it is more like existing. There are things I want to do but probably won't get to do. Mostly because interest is not there like it used to be. That and there are so many things I want to do. Today the wind is blowing pretty good. I miss living where there are four distinct seasons, but three seasons with a bonus season whenever all four show up, will have to do. There are at least 5 dozen eggs on hand today, got to find homes for them. I can use 2 dozen in egg bites for the week. And the neighbor might take 2 dozen if they are white... Yesterday there was a rare swim no fighting or arguing occurred! Today after all the eggs are sorted and packed, I will have to go to town I think. I need a zipper for...

Summer home school, wind, birthday presents.... naps

Image
Summer may not seem like the best time to home school, after all it is usually warm and plenty of folks take vacation during this time.  But here in Colorado the wind blows in what seems to be a constant manner so it doesn't always seem warm. So for our girls, school on those really windy days really just seems like a good way to be entertained!  And windy days can be good for several things, field trips, science projects like flying kites or watching just how the birds handle their flights on those days. Some days are very good for gathering chicken eggs while the hen house is being renovated.  The chickens are in their outside shelter so they have to lay their eggs "where ever". Little Miss received this very cute "egg" apron from "Auntie" for her birthday. She has wanted to go gather eggs every day since!  Today is the day she got to gather eggs. She thought there were just three eggs in this spot... but there were seven!  In the pocket...
