It's a Drake!

As I was doing the stuff that starts each day I didn't notice the changes that were occurring. On top of that yesterday was such a whirlwind of things going on that I am not sure what all I did get done! When evening came and I had time to look at the animals more closely, I noticed that one of the ducks had changed. The change isn't complete but it is happening!


We have a male Mallard and 3 females! This secures the fate of at least two of the 7 ducks. Same for the turkeys there are 3 males and four females. Of course only two of each are needed so the rest get donated or become freezer food. I am hoping that there are a male and female of the white ducks too. Time will tell.



This summer has us building a ramp to the front door for my 101 year old aunt. I am sure it will come in handy for one or both of us one day, but for now it is mainly for her.


There may even be times that the ducks and turkeys enjoy the ramp. If nothing else I get a front porch out of it. It has been too hot to enjoy sitting on a porch but that could change at any time... this is Colorado!

 It is the day before Thanksgiving and our plans have drastically changed. We will not be going to my daughter's home, and we will not be having turkey with her. I did manage to find a turkey and it looked smallish to me. Turns out it was only a pound smaller than the smallest one at the commissary. We will go for the bone density test this morning, and I will drop the dog off for groomer at my daughter's this morning on the way to the density test.  It might be a ham thanksgiving this year if anything at all. I am not complaining. I don't want to clean or cook as no one in this house even eats all the stuff. That was all yesterday and like everything in my life it changes hourly. We made it to all of our appointments and with the kids in tow! We did not get to any stores, because I do not do stores with kids if I do not have to. Three days in

  It is the third day of the new year and already the system is being challenged. The youngest wants to go to a different school, the oldest can't stay off the phone with her friends and SIL has thrown away another gift. This time it was a little water fountain that my daughter had given her. She does these things when she is in that "state".  The other day when I pulled the laundry out of the dryer there was evidence of another "cut up" piece of clothing. I had planned to take SIL to see a couple of assisted livings today. My daughter talked me out of it. It probably is best not to show her places that are not ok to move to. I spent my morning waiting in line at the pharmacy. I really should have brought in some yarn I could have made an afghan in the length of time I sat there. Black Friday... White Snow

 It is the day after Thanksgiving and the ground is covered. Black Friday shopping is not something I normally do, so this is not an inconvenience for me. We went to my daughter's home for Thanksgiving and a much smaller group of friends and family were there. My son was not feeling well so we took him some leftovers on our way home. Because the meal was not here, I do not have to deal with the leftovers or the post meal drama of what to do with all the leftover food. But that means no snacking foods either... it is a no-win situation. I get to make fresh food though and that is a good thing. I just tried to go out and return a medical device and the roads were very icy. I decided it was unlike Dunkin' Donuts, not worth the trip. Not to waste getting as far as the General Store I did buy the kids some soda for movie night tonight. We already have lots of popcorn and still some candy available.
