Today was different
It is Monday and it shows. I took today to run an errand and pay a couple of bills. There are more than a couple to pay but I'll get there. I resigned myself to what DH really feels he needs. A change of venue. I have not completely agreed to which venue, but I have agreed to a change. As I did the animal care today and watched the ducklings as they go in and out of the duck door to the henhouse, I smile. They are cutey patooties for sure!
The rhubarb and the irises and the day lillies are all coming into bloom. So, they need the water. So do the animals. The ducklings are getting big enough that they can have a bigger water source, but they still need it changed out at least twice a day. Of course, at night they all have to be closed in for the night, especially the turkeys as their door allow access for predators to get into the henhouse. The rest of the openings are not as crucial.
Owls and stray hungry cats are the biggest threats. The neighbor feeds all the stray cats but several still lurk about over here and a little duckling would probably be very tasty.
There is still so much work to do here, and I am glad we are not going to sell right away. I need time to process the actual move too. I really hope he decides on the single level home in some ways, but I'll understand if he wants the other. I mean after all, I wanted it too in the beginning. Once I realized how close the highway was and the noise level, it cooled my desire a bit. I can handle it I was just hoping for a bit more of a secluded feel.
The moon tonight is nice. Not too bright yet. It feels a lot like spring. I did plant my lemon seeds the other day only to find the pots totally dried out today. I have since fixed those up and they should be good for a few days. My daughter came over and watched me water all the plants and animals and remarked that there is a whole lot of watering to do each day. I guess there really is once the dry season really kicks in. She plans to watch the place while we take a break.
It is now May 29th, 15 days from the start of this post. We made the trip to see the other property, the single level. He hated it, well to be fair he said the land was okay. The house needed tons of work. The little cabin was very nice, but it would not appraise for the asking price, even with a nice cabin. All in all, the trip was worth taking. We headed back that Sunday morning and arrived home by 1530.
On the ride home I received a text requesting that I pick up a duck found by the teenager's friends. Of course, I agreed to do so. And the adventure continues... the duck turning out to be a duckling, but I took it anyway. On introducing it to the mother duck, I saw rejection in a way I have never seen before. I felt sad as I caught it and took it in the house. For 4 days I took Odessa out to the duck pond to swim and then to bathe in the bathroom sink while I cleaned the box it was in. I then went to Big R on the last day of school and bought 3 ducklings for my orphan duckling.
On that trip I was informed that my duckling was a gosling. I was surprised. Now I needed a new strategy. I bought a large tank and set it up for the 4 new friends, and friends they were not. It took about three days before they were okay together and now it is like they are siblings.
Moving on to the last day of May. What a whirlwind of a day. I awoke at 0330 and I could not get back to sleep. There was too much to do today. I did get a lot done, but there is much more to do. Chickens were dropped at the meat locker and a rooster picked up. My experience was not what I thought it would be. I do not think I will go that route again.
The most positive thing that came out of it was a free rooster. Even that may not turn out to be all that positive. Time will tell.
