Another cold one... until it isn't

I got up this morning to another cold and glooming Sunday. Maybe it will perk up and maybe the sun will shine. Maybe it will just be overcast and chilly the rest of the day. Either way I need to do laundry. I enjoy that part of homeschooling includes counting housework as coursework... I do not enjoy fighting with the students about doing their coursework 😅

Hopefully this Summer we will travel to La Junta to see the dinosaur footprints. There are some there that are said to be imprinted in stone. Should be a nice long trip. I will need to pick a cloudy cool day to go. :( just not today. Here it is Wednesday, it hit a 101 this afternoon so today was not a day to walk around out in the heat. It is late so I am going to go to bed and try again tomorrow. (spoiler alert: no footprints this week)

Today while going to pick up a prescription, I realized, I spend way too much time away from the home. I am sure it is to avoid the work that needs to be done, but still.

Here it is a week after that Sunday and the morning was hot before 6am. Most of my day was spent emptying the "baking" cupboard and the bucket storage out of the pantry. I recently purchased new jars for the baking cupboard... only to find they are a little bit too big. I will still use them. they are gallon size and will hold the majority of the baking items in one jar instead of 2 or 3. I had high hopes that they would fit well in the pantry also. Let's just go with I will use them.

I would be able to use them easily in the cupboards in Oklahoma. But we are here not there. I might order some for that house depending on how the next trip down there turns out. Speaking of that my daughter called to let me know that for the graduation of her son, he will get 4 hours on family day the day before graduation and an hour on graduation day for pictures before they must return to the barracks and be ready to load up on the buses for their duty stations. No family transport, no hanging out. Also, it means being there 3 days at a minimum due to all the driving.

That really challenges my thoughts of going for the celebration, as there will not be one. It is a 24-hour drive if we go straight through. Otherwise, we drive 10-12 hours to our home in Oklahoma rest and get up the next day and drive 12+ hours to Fort Benning for 4 hours of shared time with a young PFC that hasn't seen his wife in 6+ weeks... I think we know how that will likely go. Not to mention lining up dog care, cat care, hotels for a hotel resistant teen and traveling with special needs on board. The other option is to fly, rent a car and hotel and still find care for the dogs and cats and possibly the kids.

I checked on that today, the youngest adult kid is not up for kid care, will come check on cats though. I think we will just let the newlyweds have the time to themselves and his parents and send money.

Here are the jars partially filled. I still have to empty several half gallon and quart jars into these and that will make a little more room in the pantry and in the "baking" cupboard.

I really should have taken a picture of the chaos that was the "baking" cupboard so that the organization could be better appreciated.  It is okay though, in a week or so it will be just as chaotic as it was.

I had to leave the Grits in their container from the store. During the clean out I found enough Grits to fill a gallon jar.  Oh well I guess I will be eating grits for a while. I am the only one in this house that likes them. I live with food weirdos. I will skip the pantry for tonight. It is late and doesn't look near as good as the cupboard. that is the great thing about doing your own blog... you can show the good, the bad and skip the ugly :)
