Out the gate... and whoa! wait we aren't there yet...

Image
The morning started off strong for both girls, we walked three of the four dogs on leashes for PE warm up. The fourth dog came along without a leash. On the third lap around the yard the children were ready to take the dogs back inside. The two male dogs were good with that idea. The two female dogs could have gone further. Both girls needed drinks and a moment to rest. We are really out of shape! While they took a break, I took the paperwork to the school to withdraw both kiddos. I still need to return the chrome book to the school but that can wait till later today. We have to go to the library in town and return an overdue book so I can do it then. It was a peaceful start to our day. DH returned from town with the chicken feed so I will unload that and get it into the shed for later today. We played Yahtzee for about an hour, the youngest and I, we did not finish the game. There was quite a bit of wiggle worm activity. Those are the signals to stop, change or redirect when it c...

Homeschooling... by choice

Image
If you have read this blog for long or perhaps just for fun, maybe read long ago posts then you will know we have flirted with homeschooling, danced with it, tackled it and had it forced on us during COVID-19 restrictions like the rest of the nation. Now we have decided to have a go at it again. This time by choice, no one is angry with the school system, okay maybe a little, but not flaming angry like the first time. This is random, for months I have thought homeschooling the youngest might be best for her, I didn't dive in because she was at least a little excited to return to friends this year. We did not anticipate a lack of services, but we hung in there until it seemed obvious that services weren't going to happen. I struggled with considering our local school, weighing the pros and cons almost daily. Finally, even though the pros did not outweigh the cons, I gave in and transferred the youngest to the local school. Almost immediately, we contracted new germs and the who...

Gravity has its' benefits

I sure wish it would quit trying to prove its' case with me. I had left the doctor's office on a Thursday, bragging about how I had not fallen in quite some time and how I had little if any pain in the knee that the other doctor wants to operate on. Only to trip on wire out in the pasture and fall hard on my face the very next day. The wire had been clipped to get equipment through now that there are no pasture animals to keep fenced in. Not that the 3-wire fence really did that job very well. The throbbing only occurs when I stand too long or try to carry too much at a time, or climb stairs, drive, that kind of thing. Doing long shifts tends to aggravate the situation a bit. So, note to self, do not brag on Thursday as one may fall on Friday. Today I thought we could carry the couch to the attic today, but I measured the doorway, and it won't fit through. I shared that with DH, and he refused to accept what I said as fact. He insisted that he did not put any doorways in t...

I owe, I owe so off to work I go... again

Image
Well, now that we are solidly back into debt it is time for me to get solidly back to work. The new solar panels and the RV need money. Since I am primarily the one who wanted them, I feel fiscally responsible for them. I do have my thoughts set on buying a smaller RV next spring. That said I still have to pay for both of these items first. the money pit  As I texted my supervisor and agreed to take a 6-hour shift tonight, I pondered all the objections I would face on the home front once they knew I would be leaving to go. Of course, as soon as I admitted that I had picked up a shift all the objections began to flow. I hired my granddaughter to watch the youngest to ease the anxiety of me being gone till midnight. That didn't work out quite as well as I had hoped. I received multiple calls from the youngest that night. My relief showed up early and we changed hands, and I headed to the door... just in time to hear a scream from down the hall. The brand new to us ADON, had her...

The day after...

Each year we try to make less so there isn't as much leftover. This year I saw a really good sale on plastic containers $2 for a set of 24 varying sizes, from 4ounces to a half gallon. I purchased enough to pass around to the hostess and guests so that clean up could go quickly and everyone that wanted to take food home would have containers to do so. Somehow, I still ended up with the majority of the leftovers. The deviled eggs started out on a rough note A bit too soupy Boy did the grandkids and great grands grow a lot!  I swear that boy was just a boy last summer! SIL was in a good state for most of the day The great granddaughter didn't sit still long enough to get any good photos, but she has gotten so much taller too. She is the little one jumping off the bar stool. She will be 5 in March, hard to believe! It was a smaller group this year as some of the "adult" grandkids didn't make it. Most did not bring their "plus 1". The ride home for SIL was ...

Day 5 of the Thanksgiving break...

Today we have appointments, dental appointments, I hope to enlist the help of DH. I won't hold my breath. An instruction I pass out frequently, anyone that knows me is aware of this. I hope to continue the work I started yesterday. If I can clear the shelves in the main living room of the items that collect dust. That would cut down on dusting, or at least the items that collect the dust. The game table must stay in the living room I like to play Pac-Man; therefore, the table stays. I am moving all my sewing things to the basement while I wait for the cottage to evolve. The Christmas tree will go into the small living room that just collects dust and cast offs anyway. The old oak dropleaf table is going to the attic and the old blue sofa is also. The only thing staying with the tree will be the piano. It is too heavy to move again, and the kids voted for it to stay. I will likely not get much moved today. The morning is off to a slow start with cleaning. My list is missing... most...
