Robin's Nest

  It is President's Day and as homeschoolers we did nothing to take note of it. The day was filled with other more pressing challenges. One of which was finding the kitchen counter.  The day has continued to be chilly although not as bone chilling as the last two days. Quite a few funny things occured over the last four or five days; unfortunately there isn't time to share all of them on the blog. Today I did have plans to move things out of the guest/sewing room. Once I started moving craft items from their storage areas I realized I didn't want to. Moving rooms takes a lot of energy and time. With the terribly cold weekend we just had there were more important things that needed to be done.  The ladies are fine! Checking on the chickens was number one on my list, then jumping the battery on the pickup truck was next, catching up the laundry and dishes were right up there. This may not seem like it should be a priority but using the whipping cream was very urgent. Today ...

  On Saturday we finally made our trip to the space museum. I almost put it off till Monday, of course then my daughter told me they're closed on Monday and Sunday every week. Monday being President's Day probably would have made it crowded if it was open. Of course the kids were all interested in the gift shop more than seeing the museum. There were many new and interesting displays this time; some of the big stuff never changes. I enjoyed the room that told about the planets with visual aids and a live speaker.   Good morning! After a very cold Friday without water for most of the day; it was nice to get up and turn the faucet on and see the water flowing.  It is also the men's breakfast this morning so on cue I got up and started the egg cups. Of course the dogs needed outside, a child needed chocolate milk, DH needed help getting dressed and his truck would not start. Much to my dislike I started my van, swept the snow off and carried the finish egg cups out to the van. Since I had used the remote start I was unable to open the doors and I had already given the keys to DH. Now if you were here watching us you would note this to be a comedy of errors. He was tugging at the driver's door with no results. I was tempted to open the rear sliding door as it does not lock at all. Instead I told him to hit the unlock button on the keypad and open his door. Now his car is also a Chrysler product so this shouldn't have been a big challenge as our key fobs are identical right down to the c...

  The kiddos were not happy that we were not going somewhere yesterday. Frankly, after 2+ hours in the car just to get to the museum I am ready for several days at home! We did have a full day planned regardless. We were going to go to the space museum today to make up for the "boring at home" day, but appointments ran over and DH was too tired to make the trip. Add to that I forgot to grab dog food and milk on museum day and that necessitated a quick run to the store for those two items. I did grab 5 dozen eggs to be ready for the men's breakfast on Saturday. That should save me from going later this week. Every second and fourth Saturday the men get together at the church and have breakfast. Usually, DH brings scrambled eggs, and leaves my kitchen a disaster. This week he can't drive and probably won't want to cook. So this weekend he will take egg cups. Because I will have to cook them and they are neater to make than 3 dozen scrambled eggs... and we get stuck ...

  Sometimes when I am overwhelmed with all there is to do in a day (yesterday) I find relief from stress by making something. It can be cooking or sewing or crocheting, anything creative. This time it was Butterscotch magic shell ice cream topping! This was so simple and very tasty!  I just melted a bag of butterscotch morsels and 5 T of refined coconut oil in a double boiler until melted, stirred real well and poured that stuff into a jar! It is yummy! I of course had to taste test it. Now I have to make the chocolate shell This should keep about a month in the cupboard... if it lasts that long! This game has been enjoyed  especially waiting to leave for the field trip! The trip to the museum was fun but time constraints did not allow us to see it all. We have a trip to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science History planned. The baby is not invited. Well, if her mother comes along then she can come. As of right now mom is not going; therefore baby is not invited to go. If she liked Gramma or even if she just tolerated Gramma maybe she could go. In the meantime we had a good day with our lessons yesterday and actually accomplished more than I thought we would. After the little bit of bookwork was finished we worked on some valentines, and then some art things and then an impromptu sign language session involving the ten million fireflies song. The 10 year-old is particularly interested in sign language and is really good at signing this particular song.  We marked the calendar to try and include this activity once a week.   Good Morning Veggies Tales! Nope that is not working today. Gramma is the bad guy... again. Baby is not having it if she has to stay this morning. We still have a few weeks to get her staying with me and not regretting it. Finally, she cried herself to sleep and I laid her in the pack and play.  An hour later she is up and not happy to be here. But food might help. Nope that is not working either... what's that in the driveway?! Yay! It's Auntie!! She eats for Auntie and plays for Auntie... now Auntie has to go. Baby drags her own coat to the door. It is evident that she is going with Auntie, like it or not. Once baby was gone for today the other kids and I set down to get back into the daily groove of workbooks and learning. It is hard some days! We keep short and sweet and try to be thankful for the tasks we do manage to get done.
