Slow and steady... on with week 45

Here it is Friday, one week and one day from the day we toured and agreed on the apartment at Springs Ranch, and we are not much closer to move in than we were that day. This morning we are going to have a PPD read at Primary care. Since then, I have been contacted by a few more agencies that have offered lower prices and equal services. The ruling factor for Springs Ranch is that they have nurses and CNA's not QMaps and caregivers. That is not to say that perhaps they are not as good, but it has been my experience that in fact they are not as well trained.

SIL and her idea of packing to leave

In this state, you cannot really make a formal complaint against a QMap, they are not licensed. A caregiver is the same situation. All complaints would go against the nurse they work under. In theory this should be enough to keep people trained. It is not. I have decided though since we are going out anyway, we might look at another place just so she can see how much better the one we chose is.

SIL getting a sandwich ready for herself

Well, it is now Saturday after seeing a final memory care. She likes this one better; she still likes the other one but this one has a kitchenette. She loves to clean in the kitchen. Seeing a full-size refrigerator certainly appealed to her. Also, the shower was actually bigger, and she could supply her own furniture. These were some of her likes. Some of mine included being able to keep the pharmacy set-up we have and being able to stay overnight if needed. More apartment like, she could hang her own curtains if desired. I had some misgivings, but if it doesn't work out we can move her.

Oh there she is! Trying to find the source of the beeping

It saves her $2800/month for a year and although price is not the prevailing factor for any decision concerning her it certainly helps. The place did feel more homelike than the one we chose. The other that we chose, does feel hotel-like.

Couldn't find so back to making a sandwich!

With these pictures it is clear to see, at least for me that she would enjoy her own place without the noise of kiddos disrupting the beeping refrigerator and her sandwich making. I promised to keep her home as long as possible, but I don't think that is in her best interest. Now that I have had time to get to know her idiosyncrasies, it is my impression that the noise of the household is very upsetting. It seems to increase her level of dementia and anxiety. Those both feed into each other and the hallucinations start. Of course, I could be way off base, and the change may not be beneficial at all. But we won't know if we don't try.

And so, the week 45 countdown begins. currently, she is assembling a pizza for herself, and she wants to share with others for lunch. The youngest does not want the pizza, and that is okay.

The youngest and I took a nice long walk

we were alone on the road it was a really nice day for it

After that and a game of hide and seek, we pulled the laundry from the line and brought it to fold. Suddenly, I was abandoned with the basket of towels and the youngest found better things to do.
